Billy Mays = Cocaine?

I surprised when I found out that Billy Mays died a month ago, but I was shocked when I read an article today that stated cocaine contributed to his death. They are speculating that the cocaine use is part of the reason why he was so animated in his commercials but his family refuses to believe he had a drug problem; I think most families would. Apparently, he abused cocaine as well as other non-prescription drugs which contributed to the heart disease he had. It’s a sad story when you think about…just another human that has fallen victim to the drug scene. I don’t get it. I’ve never touched a drug in my life. Never smoked pot. Never been high. If you want to count drinking alcohol then okay, I’ve “touched” a drug but I’m talking about illegal drugs, hard drugs, drugs that aren’t given to you by a doctor. And even then, those drugs prescribed to me by a doctor if I ever get any prescriptions, have never been abused and those drugs you can by over the counter at your local Wal-Mart are taken as the directions state. I hate taking medication so I couldn’t imagine filling my body with something even harder like cocaine. Hell, I can’t even muster up enough courage to try diet pills because I know what they are filled with – stimulating substances that my body would have an overwhelming reaction too which would cause me to feel like I’m going crazy and then crash when I’m not taking them. No thanks, you can keep your drugs.

The Unwinding Cable Car.

Anberlin has been one of my favorite bands for quite some time now. The following song is constantly being played on repeat in Itunes. What do you think of it? I love it.\

emotive unstable.
your like an unwinding cable car.
listening for voices,
buts its the choices that make us who we are.
go your own way.
even season have change.
just burn those new leaves over.
so self-absorbed, you’ve seem to ignore,
the prayers that have already come about.

this is the correlation of salvation and love.
(dont drop your arms)
dont drop your arms.
i’ll guard your heart.
with quite words i’ll lead you in.
la la la la la la la la la la la
la la la la la la la la la la la

backing away from the problem of pain.
you never had a home.
you’ve been misguided.
you’re hiding in shadows for so very long.
don’t you belive that you’ve been decived?
that your no better than…
the hair in your eyes it never disguised
what your really thinking of.

[x2]
this is the correlation of salvation and love.
(dont drop your arms)
dont drop your arms.
i’ll guard your heart.
with quite words i’ll lead you in.

[x2]
you’re so brilliant.
dont soon forget.
your so brilliant.
grace marked your heart.

this is the correlation of salvation and love.
dont drop your arms.
i’ll guard your heart.
with quite words i’ll lead you in and out of the dark.
la la la la la la la la la la la
dont drop your arms.
la la la la la la la la la la la

[x2]
this is the correlation of salvation and love.
(dont drop your arms)
dont drop your arms.
i’ll guard your heart.
with quite words i’ll lead you in.

Shoutout: Dez.

I wanted to give a shout out to Dez because she’s the reason why my DVD player usage will go from -1% to 100% in the coming month. She was kind enough to offer up some 1 month trials of Netflix over at Lavish and I asked if she could send me one. I went ahead and made my account tonight and put 6 movies in my queue:

  1. A Good Year
  2. 25th Hour
  3. 27 Dresses
  4. Matchstick Men
  5. What Happens in Vegas
  6. Mystic River

My first movie, A Good Year, is suppose to go out in the mail this coming Monday – I can’t wait. I’m really hoping that this Netflix thing will work out because if it does I plan to keep it after the 1 month trial is over. They are fairly cheap too offering four different plans at different rates; I signed up for the $8.99/month plan which allows you to have 1 DVD at a time, with unlimited requests each month and unlimited instant access to movies you can watch on your computer – we’ll see how it goes. It’s a good thing I picked up a box of popcorn at the store the other day as well as audio/video cables for my dvd player because I forgot to bring mine with me when I moved…now if only I had some good quality theater seating and surround sound, and perhaps a big ol’ HDTV then I’d definitely be good to go :)

PS: If you have any suggestions for movies that I should consider getting, please let me know via comment or email!

That’s what you get.

That’s what you get – Paramore

No sir, well I don’t wanna be the blame, not anymore.
It’s your turn, so take a seat we’re settling the final score.
And why do we like to hurt, so much?

I can’t decide
You have made it harder just to go on
And why, all the possibilities where I was wrong

That’s what you get when you let your heart win, whoa.
That’s what you get when you let your heart win, whoa.
I drowned out all my sense with the sound of its beating.
And that’s what you get when you let your heart win, whoa.

I wonder, how am I supposed to feel when you’re not here.
‘Cause I burned every bridge I ever built when you were here.
I still try holding onto silly things, I never learn.
Oh why, all the possibilities I’m sure you’ve heard.

That’s what you get when you let your heart win, whoa.
That’s what you get when you let your heart win, whoa.
I drowned out all my sense with the sound of its beating. (beating)
And that’s what you get when you let your heart win, whoa.

Hey, make your way to me, to me.
And I’ll always be just so inviting.
If I ever start to think straight,
This heart will start a riot in me,
Let’s start, start, hey!

Why do we like to hurt so much?
Oh why do we like to hurt so much?

That’s what you get when you let your heart win!
Whoa.

That’s what you get when you let your heart win, whoa.
That’s what you get when you let your heart win, whoa.

Now I can’t trust myself with anything but this,
And that’s what you get when you let your heart win, whoa

Another pregnant Spears!

Jamie Lynn Spears PregnantI know, I know you’re probably tired of hearing it by now but Jamie Lynn Spears, younger sister of Britney Spears, is pregnant. I wasn’t going to post on this because why should I fuel the media by posting about the hottest news which everyone is already sick of hearing about? But I have an opinion and I’m going to state my opinion.

We all know the whirlwind of a life Britney Spears has been living the past few years but not much has really been heard about her sister Jamie Lynn who is sixteen until this point. She is best known for her acting job on the hit show Zoey 101 – so maybe she is more popular than one might think but with a younger audience since the show is a Nickelodeon show. I’ve seen the show before because I have a younger sister and it really isn’t all that bad, I think Jamie just like her sister has her own talents and it’s great that she’s pursuing the career she wants. However, now that she is pregnant there is a question to be posed – does she get fired, should she get fired? I don’t think she should, she just as any other female, as a right to live her life the way she chooses and while she may only be sixteen she made an irresponsible choice. Does this send the wrong message to young viewers saying “hey Jamie Lynn from Zoey 101 did it, so can I”? Perhaps it does but I think it says more about the parenting of said children than it does about the television shows children are watching.

I realize that the media influences everyone in different ways and I realize it is something that no matter how hard we try to get away from, we just can’t. It influences the products we buy, the products we don’t buy, the movies we go see in the theaters, the clothing we wear, the clothing we don’t wear, what is hot and what is not – media influences everything BUT you are in control of your mind, you are also in control of the decisions you make and if you let the media influence you so much to the point that you say “omg…like Jamie Lynn got pregnant, I’m going too also” there is something wrong. There is also something wrong with the parenting of said child who think this way – some children are too young to understand the concept of sex and babies but if a child is seriously thinking about sex/babies at age nine, eleveen or whatever the ages are of the people watching Zoey 101 then something is seriously wrong.

Maybe I just firmly believe that everyone makes their choices based on what they believe is wrong and right rather than what the media portrays to be wrong or right. Maybe because I’ve never felt really influenced by the media (aside from products I might buy) that others are the same – I know this isn’t correct but I would like to believe that people honestly don’t follow the influence of the media as much as they might. And while Jamie Lynn is sixteen, pregnant and has decided to keep the baby she should be treated no differently than any other sixteen year old that is pregnant or will get pregnant. If you leave out the fact that she is a Spears, if you leave out the fact that she is a celebrity, all that is left is an ordinary sixteen year old capable of making decisions just as any other sixteen year old. There is no reason to go back and forth in a blame game because what is done is done there is no going back and changing what mother nature has decided upon, however it makes me question the parenting of Spears’ parents as well as her own decision making. And while I can only speak for myself and it’s quite contradicting for me to say one shouldn’t be having sex at sixteen since I was only fifteen when I started having sex – I do believe that she could have been smarter about it and maybe she was…but that’s a private matter that none of us will ever know about.

In the end, from one human being to another, from one female to another, I hope that she doesn’t make the same decisions her sister has as far as drinking, partying, and drugs goes and is a good mother to her child.

Sweeney Todd.

When you hear the name Johnny Depp, what is the first thing that pops into your mind aside from “sexy man”? In most cases, people will respond with the actor from Pirates of the Caribbean (great movies by the way), however for me one of the first things that comes to mind are the movies Edward Scissorhands and Cry-Baby. As a little girl, I remember sitting at my grand mother’s house and watching Edward Scissorhands, in which Depp played the main character role of Edward, and being absolutely frightened by the character – I mean who wouldn’t be afraid of a man with scissors as hands for heavens sake?! I think this was the first role that I saw Depp play in which he was portrayed as a “freak from nature” if you will compared to his role in the Cry-Baby in which he played Wade Walker who was known as Cry-Baby for his ability to shed a single tear. In Cry-Baby, rather than playing a freak of nature type role, Depp is portrayed as a bad ass of sorts and one of those “cool guys” that gets the girl. In these two movies alone as well as the more popular roles in Pirates of the Caribbean, you can see that Depp is able to act a wide variety of roles and it’s no surprise to me that he’d be the main star in a new movie about revenge called Sweeney Todd.

What’s interesting about this movie is that it’s based off a hit Broadway musical in which Sweeney Todd, played by Johnny Deep, is unjustly sent away to prison and vows revenge not only on those who punished him but also for what happened to his wife and daughter. After looking through the official website about the movie, I came to a realization that Depp’s character Sweeney Todd somewhat resembles Edwards Scissorhands in looks (maybe it’s the hair!) and the movie itself has a rather interesting story line and will be a must see when it’s released on December 21st. If you’re a Johnny Depp fan, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with his performance in this movie, after all he IS Johnny Depp. If you visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site or visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace, you’ll be able to get all the information you need on the movie – and who said that revenge isn’t sweet? ;)

The Mist!

I’ve been an avid reader since I was younger and as I’ve grown up my genre of literature has changed and with that came a love for Stephen King and the thrillers that he writes. The Mist by Stephen King is being released as a movie and I will definitely have to pick up the book and read it before the release! Not only am I an avid reader of thrillers and horror fiction, but I am also someone who enjoys a good suspense movie much like The Mist. I will definitely be going to see this when it is released on November 21st, 2007 in theaters.

In case you aren’t familiar with the story line or haven’t seen the TV previews for the movie, it is a suspense thriller in which citizens of a small town find themselves besieged by throngs of strange, horrifying and deadly creatures after a mysterious storm. From personal experience, I can’t really say that I’ve had a horribly terrifying experience that caused me or the people I was around to change persona’s but I do recall a situation that happened when my family and I first moved to Kansas.

My dad was driving the truck with my mom in the passenger seat and my brother and I in the back, it started to thunderstorm and rain so hard that you couldn’t even see the road. We came to a dead stop in the middle of the road with the winds rocking the truck back and forth; I seriously thought that the truck was going to be blown away, it felt as if we had gotten caught in a tornado but were never blown away. During this time, all of us were filled with panic and a little fear wondering what to do and when the storm would pass…it was not a very good feeling! It’s interesting to see how people’s demeanor change when they are put into a fearful situation and it’ll definitely be interesting to see how the citizens in The Mist take control of the situation and how things pan out for them when they are faced with deadly creatures!

Like I stated previously, I’ll definitely be seeing The Mist, will you?
