Before I moved to Kansas in August of 2008, I purchased a brand new car. At the time, I wasn’t sure if I would be staying in Kansas after I graduated from KU or if I would move back to South Carolina. Either way, I kept my SC tags and registration in tack because there was no point in switching it over if I was going to leave. That meant I also had to keep my SC auto insurance in tack as well. Then came August of 2010, I’ve graduated from KU (May ’1o) and have decided to stay in KS after all. I went through the whole process of getting my tags and registration switched over and forked over the $128 in taxes and fees…I wasn’t very happy as I didn’t have $128 laying around BUT I got a nice surprise when I was told my auto insurance premium would be dropping when I switched it to reflect a KS resident. It’s interesting how premiums vary from state to state, I guess KS drivers don’t cost as much to insure? I can’t complain about the extra savings! Now if I could just save up the extra money to get a custom license plate, I would be a happy camper. The plate would match the orange color of my car just like my SC plate did…I’m weird about things like that.
