New job.

I’ve been fairly busy the past two weeks so I’m pretty sure that I hadn’t mentioned that I got a new job and started that job on the 23rd of August. I love it! At least I do at this point, I’ll check back in about a month to see if I still feel the same way. I work as a Family Support Worker within a social service agency that deals with foster and adoption cases. I help children in their time of need while they are in foster homes and their parents are working to get them back into the home. I do not work for SRS and I do not take kids away from their parents; this is important to point out because many people, parents and children included, think that we are the ones who take kids away. In fact, we do the opposite by trying to help the families and get the children back with their parents before it becomes an adoption issue. I work full time with benefits and get paid .50 cent more than I was at my summer temporary job. It is a business casual agency so I have to wear long skirts, black pants, nice shirts which is definitely a change from getting to wear jeans and t-shirts all day, everyday. But I love it! I know I said that once already. I also get my own office space in the cubicle with my case manager with my own computer, my own email and my own files. I get to set my schedule based on when I do visits with the children which is nice as some days I’ll work 8a – 5p but others, like for tomorrow for instance, I will work 10:30a – 8:30p. I’m really excited about this job because it allows me to gain more experience in the social service field but also gives me a first hand look into what a case manager actually does which is where I want to go next. It’ll also look really good on my resume when I apply to graduate school to get my MSW. I’ll update more as I get comfortable with the job but there isn’t too much I can really say about it due to legal and confidentially laws.
