I am sure most of you heard about the health care bill that passed yesterday. I won’t get into a debate as to whether I think it’s good, bad or what have you because honestly, I don’t really understand much about it. I don’t understand how it will work, how it’s going to work, where the money is coming from, who is getting taxed, what is changing etc. All I know is that I don’t have to start looking for free insurance quotes just yet because if the rule of being able to stay on your parents policy until age 26 goes into effect soon, then I’ll be able to go back on the insurance my dad has through the military; that is…if the rule translates over. See, I was kicked off the insurance policy for good when I turned 23 years old – that was over a year ago. The rule for military insurance and children is that they can be on the policy past the age of 21 as long as you are a full time college student and then the rule is you won’t be kicked off until you turn 23 or graduate from college which ever comes first; in my case, turning 23 came first and even then I was getting kicked out of the system at the end of every semester since I turned 21 and had to constantly go back and forth to validate that I was in school full-time. It sucks. I don’t get health insurance as a part time person through my work and I can’t afford insurance on my own along with the bills I already have. Having insurance would have helped me when I sprained my wrist a few weeks ago and had to go into the health center and get xrays done and it would help every month with my birth control prescription…so I am hoping this turns out to be a good thing.
