As February approaches, I find myself wondering what I’m going to do about health insurance because I won’t be able to receive health insurance under my dad anymore because I turn 23 – damn military! I haven’t really looked into alternative options to see how much it’s going to cost me to get insurance on my own, but I do know that the University offers student insurance for a cheaper price than most companies.
It’s important to me to have health insurance because I take birth control and it’s one of those monthly things I have to get refilled because without it, I have major issues (and yes, I take it for reasons other than not wanting babies right now!). Luckily for me, I have a three months supply that I just got refilled on Friday so I’m good until February but I have to make sure I get into the doctors for a checkup and a new prescription by the 12th which is when my insurance expires.
Hopefully, finding alternative insurance won’t be difficult or too costly and considering I won’t have anyone asking me “do you need life insurance quotes,” quoting health insurance shouldn’t be THAT expensive, but who knows. I’m not even exactly sure where to look in regards to something like this, except to just call and get quotes from random insurance companies…I guess I’ll deal with it more when the time comes but it’s just another thing I have to worry about in the next two months.

I’m pretty sure 23 is the customary insurance cut-off age… it’s not really a military thing. The insurance agencies figure that by 23 the majority of kids are no longer “dependents”. They’re generally out of college and have their own jobs. Anyway, check with your college and see if they have any health insurance plans for students.
