One of the things that my grandmother had bought me for my apartment was this really cute, fish bowl that sits inside a larger fish statue type thing and while it was really cute and decorative it was absolutely too small for the Betta fish that I got to go in it. At first, I didn’t think too much of it since the pet stores keep them in the small containers and the majority of “Betta fish bowls” are small containers as well. But after a week or so of having him, I noticed that the water was quick to go bad and he didn’t have enough room to swim around in and often would just hid under the little plant I put in there.
So after class, I went to Wal-Mart with a friend and picked up a boring 1 gallong goldfish bowl that came with gravel, water conditioner, some food and a net; it actually turned out nice than I thought it would. I just finished transfering him over to his new home and he seems to like it much better – hasn’t stopped swimming around. I’m glad that all I have to worry about is getting fish supplies and not horse supplies or some crazy thing like that, I wanted to get a dog when I originally moved in but with them having put new carpet in I’m not allowed – I guess it’s some what a good thing because it saves me from having to buy dog supplies which can get fairly expensive and I’m a broke college student, so I can’t really afford to buy things that a dog might need; at least, I have my fish and he’s simple to take care of
Here are pictures of what I did have him in and what he is in now (sorry they are kind of bad, they were taken with my phone:

Aww, that’s a really cute statue bowl, but it definitely does look small. I’m glad you got your beta fish something nicer. I’m sure he’s very happy now!

Aren’t betas fantastic? They’re so easy to care for, and they don’t require any fancy/expensive fishbowls. I had a few betas in college (a total of about a dozen or so, but never more than two at a time), also because my landlord wouldn’t allow big pets. (Technically he didn’t allow ANY pets… I just never told him about my fish!)
