What I’ve been up too.

It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged and I’m here to say that I’m still alive; just busy and haven’t particularly wanted to blog as of lately. My classes are going pretty well thus far with no major problems as far as the work load goes, I’m sure that will change further into the semester when the time comes to write all the papers I have to do.

I had to format my computer the other night in an attempt to get my USB ports to start working again; I succeeded but damn does formatting suck the big one. Luckily, I was able to get a USB port to work long enough to get everything backed up onto my portal hard drive so that I could transfer everything later. For some reason when I formatted back in February the drivers for the USB ports got messed up and wouldn’t let me install them from the motherboard CD; I had to get them to work because I couldn’t even use a damn printer which would have caused major issues later in the semester. Thank god everything works now…saves me money for the time being upgrading my PC, but I’m still in search of a laptop.

I haven’t started working again even though I planned on doing so after Labor day. The original plan was to transfer my position from Old Navy in Charleston to Old Navy here in Lawrence but I don’t think I’m going to do that after all. Pam (manager at home store) got a hold of the manager here and the manager here basically told her that she didn’t want to hire me (even though, I’ve worked at ON for almost a year) unless I was going to be staying through breaks and such. I was a bit upset and didn’t know what to say when Pam told me this because I find it highly unfair; I understand her reasoning behind it because if people leave for holidays etc. she has to find people to work, but to say that you won’t hire me unless I stay sucks…I need breaks too and being away from my family, that’s the only time I get to see them during the year. I’m in the search for a new job and hopefully can work one day out of 90 days to keep me in the ON system so I can work there when I go back to Charleston for the summer. I’ll probably start doing pay2blog links later to bring in some extra money until I find a job.

I might as well live in Wal-mart. I think I’ve been to Wal-mart at least 10 times in the last two weeks, no joke. It seems that every time I get home, I think of something I need, not to mention food that needs to be bought. And god, am I tired of spending money, I hate spending money and having to do so is frustrating but it comes with setting up an apartment - I guess I really didn’t realize how much it does cost.

Things between Alan and I are good. He started classes on Tuesday and goes to them during the evening time, we still have our time to talk and it still sucks that we’re apart but what can ya do? Hopefully, he’ll be able to come visit sometime soon…if not sometime during the holiday break. I have also been able to see Barry (ex-b/f, best friend that is in prison) twice since I’ve been back which has been really nice. In the past four years of him being in prison, I got to see him maybe once a year if I was lucky and now that I’m back in town, it’ll give me a chance to be the friend I’ve wanted to be and to show him that someone aside from his mom does care about him. I feel bad for him because no one ever comes to visit except his mom and I’m the only friend he has…I wish he wasn’t in there.

On another note, I will never talk about politics on this site mainly because I have a hard time debating the issue; I’ve never been a very good debater, and while I don’t necessarily have a hard time defending my opinions, thoughts, beliefs etc. I do find it difficult to get my opinions/thoughts out about political things like the Presidential race this year mainly because people are so quick to jump down your throat about every little thing. And while I’ll never speak about political issues on my website, unless I feel absolutely compelled to do, I do have to say this:

I stated on a message board ,in response to an article that was posted about Sarah Palin’s daughter being pregnant, that her daughter’s situation should have no bearing on Palin’s ability to be Vice President of the country but that other people and the media would try to say otherwise. I hold this opinion simply because everyone makes “mistakes;” her daughter being pregnant does not mean Palin is a bad parent, nor does it mean she’ll be a bad Vice President. Every year, girls are getting pregnant at younger ages whether they were taught about birth control or not. People need to realize that at seventeen (age of the daughter), you SHOULD be mature enough to make the decision for yourself about getting on birth control or not and knowing the consquences if you choose not too. Do I believe abstinence-only sex education is effective? Hell no, unless you absolutely DON’T have sex but what is the likelihood of that?! Her daughter made the choice she did and I would like to assume that at some point in time, she was taught about birth control. And while, it may have been her family views to simply abstain from sex, she (the daughter) still had the right and ability to receive birth control if that is what she wanted. No one knows what goes on inside their household, and just because her daughter ended up pregnant does not = Palin bad VP; no one has to follow a policy about abstinence-sex and any smart people would know it just doesn’t cut it. So, really to jump to conclusions and say that Palin’s daughter means she’d make for a horrible VP makes absolutely no sense what so ever, after all her mother can only do so much in terms of teaching her and pushing her in the right direction, she has a mind of her own just like any other teenager does, she just happened to make a poor choice, oh well. /end
