National Memory Screening Day!
It is important for us as human beings to take care of ourselves and live a healthy life, hopefully to ward of any horrible diseases that we may succumb too. It is, also, important to take advantage of events like National Memory Screening Day so that you may have the chance to catch diseases like Alzheimer’s in its earliest stages. This event is a collaborative effort run by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of American to promote early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses, by getting screened on November 13th, 2007 or a few days after this date you not only benefit yourself but your family as it’ll give you the opportunity to seek appropriate intervention before the disease takes control of your life.
A few years ago, my grand father’s mother passed away from Alzheimer’s disease…when she parted from this life, she was not herself and quite frankly, it was rather sad to see a woman who was so vibrant at one point not even be able to remember who her own son was. It is important for family members to be screened for this disease especially if it is something that a prior relative has had. It is also important that older family members stay active and stimulate their mind through physical activities or activities like puzzles. Remember there is no cure for Alzheimer’s which only makes this disease even more deadly.
National Memory Screening Day is an annual event held each November, so if you don’t have the chance to make it to a screening in your area perhaps you can plan ahead for next year! I urge you to get tested because the sooner you find out that you may have the disease the earlier you can start intervention which will only benefit you and your family in the end!
